What is your fondest memory at the University of Guelph?
My fondest memory came in second year when I was on Interhall Council. We got a third of Lambton Hall to come out to paint the cannon. I remember standing on top of the Cannon looking out at all of the students cheering and thinking that this was the best place on earth.
My proudest moment was work that we completed over the course of a year to create the case competition preparation course (JDCC pre-course now). First, I established the intake process for competition funding via CBaSE and then I did five roundtables with student leaders to gain insights on what they needed to learn before feeling confident they could win a case competition.
If you were able to do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Especially during your first year at university, getting involved can be an intimidating process; you may feel insecure about your lack of experience or you might even feel threatened by upper year students applying for the same position –we understand, we’ve been there too! However, we are here to tell you that you are good enough and you don’t need a mile long resume to impress your interviewer. All you need is passion for whichever position you’re applying for, and just be yourself. Be relaxed, calm, easy-going, yet professional and you should hit that interview straight out of the park without a doubt! If you take that leap of faith and apply to any position, you will certainly NOT regret it!Getting involved with the University of Guelph Marketing Society (and stepping outside of our comfort zone) was hands do...
It is hard to ignore the massive phenomenon that is social media. The majority of us are on two or more social media platforms and rely on these feeds and timelines for the latest news, entertainment, and also as a source of communication.
There are so many positive things social media brings to us… but will it come back to bite us? Was your 6.8 second keg stand Instagram video really that impressive? How about that picture on Facebook with the empty beer case on your head? Classic, right? But don’t worry your parents cant see! You already rejected your mom’s friend request twice, and must have “missed” your little sisters request to follow you on Instagram… no need to worry right?
Well unfortunately this is the least of our worries! You are entering your early 20’s! And even if you aren’t, you...
Would you rather always be slightly underdressed, or slightly over?
The first rule when dressing formally: it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.
In this post we will be discussing the what’s and where’s of formal dressing.
Building a wardrobe:
So it’s the day of your big presentation and your only dress shirt is dirty from your night out at Trappers. Have you ever been in this situation? Try to make sure it doesn’t happen to you by always keeping a couple clean, ironed dress shirts in your closet.
Once you got your shirt situation figured out, it’s time to start on the smaller details. You are going to want at least one matching belt and shoe combination. Black shoe with black belts and brown shoe with brown belt. You may think you look cool with your Jordans and dress pants, but I assure you, you...
Our first year brand ambassadors Taylor and Leah write a letter to themselves before they experienced their first year at the University of Guelph. Their advice is great for any future Gryphon!

Whether you enjoy them or not group projects are a fundamental part of your educational journey. They help you develop as a person as you work with a variety of different people throughout various courses.
